This week
October 21 Team Meeting
Step 1 of 9
What The Flint Focus is, and why it matters
The Flint Focus is where our announcements, updates, and dates live now. A new one goes up each week by Tuesday at 5:00 PM at the latest, and sometimes sooner. The PIN is in the email that comes with it.
Here's why. I don't want our team meetings to be me telling you to do this by that date. I'd rather we spend that time on things we do together: learning from each other, working at our tables, and having some fun.
Why it matters: when everyone shows up already knowing what's coming, our meetings can be shorter, more hands-on, and more about you. Read and complete it by 8:00 PM Wednesday. At the end you'll get a code to email me.
Step 2 of 9
Your table this week
Tables are labeled 1 to 4 in the meeting room. Find your name and sit at your table. Take note of it.
- Table 1
- Hannah, James V., Jax, Keira
- Table 2
- Addy, Giselle, Henry (excused this week, honorary member), Rem
- Table 3
- Jazera, Max, Stephanie, Tristan
- Table 4
- Calysta, Gabby, Mark, Michael
If you can, try to come 5 to 10 minutes early. Get settled, get your pencil out, catch your breath, run to the bathroom. Just get parked so you're ready to work and engage when we start. If you have class right before and have to rush over, I totally understand. Please just be safe.
Step 3 of 9
Our meetings, our pace
How long a meeting takes is up to all of us. Each agenda has a pace built in. When we stay with it, we get through everything and get out sooner.
Several of you have told me the side conversations and running comments make meetings feel longer than they need to be. I hear that. This format is part of the fix. The rest is on all of us: respect each other's time and stay with the room.
Step 4 of 9
For Wednesday
- Warm-up
- Show and Tell, facilitated by Jazera. If you're bringing something in person, don't forget it.
- Building Check-In
- Come ready to talk about what's happening on your floor.
- Work session
- We'll end with work time at our tables. Details at the meeting.
Step 5 of 9
Home Sweet Flint: this Thursday
Thursday, October 22, 3:15 to 6:15 PM in the main lobby. Residents make a book cover for their own story as they reflect on their identity and experiences. It's the same thing you'll make at Wednesday's meeting.
If you signed up for a shift, here's when you're on:
- 3:15–4:45 PM
- James and Hannah (setup and first stretch)
- 4:45–5:15 PM
- Jazera and Mark
- 5:15–5:45 PM
- Addy and Rem
- 5:45–6:15 PM
- Jax and Stephanie (last shift and cleanup)
If you pass by and you're not on shift, please stop and make a cover instead of walking past. It sets a good example and shows residents you care. Whether you realize it or not, people are watching.
Step 6 of 9
November 'Cuse Connect planning form: due Wednesday
If you haven't submitted your planning form for your November 'Cuse Connect, it's due by the end of Wednesday's team meeting. If it isn't in by then, you'll fill it out at your table during the meeting.
Submit something, even if it isn't final. You can edit it anytime after. Waiting on a collab partner or still figuring out details? That's fine. Get it in the system now and revise it later.
If you're collaborating with someone who already submitted one, you're covered.
Step 7 of 9
'Cuse Chats: 100% by Friday, October 30 at 5 PM
Every 'Cuse Chat for every resident on your floor is due, 100% complete, by Friday, October 30 at 5:00 PM. No exceptions.
Some residents you just can't reach. If you've tried three different ways and still can't connect, use the 'Cuse Connect Attempted Connection form. It opens Monday, October 26.
Step 8 of 9
Grow As You Go: sign up now
Monday, November 9, 4:00 to 6:00 PM in the lobby. We need two RAs for every half-hour slot, so eight of you total.
Unless you have class, plan on taking a slot. Events like this need all of us.
Step 9 of 9
You’re all set. Here’s your code.
Dusty Bookshelves
Email this code to James by 8:00 PM Wednesday. That’s how he marks you as done for the week.
This is mandatory. The Flint Focus is part of our team meeting, so completing it counts the same as showing up.
Email James the codeOpens a new email to jabialek@syr.edu with the code filled in. Or just send it yourself.
